Glorifying God In Our Trials
Welcome,
It’s tea time. A moment to slow our breathing, open the Word, and allow God’s love and truth to do its quiet, faithful work in us.
It’s easy to focus on ourselves during difficult trials. We tend to dwell on our problems and imagine ways to find relief. We want the Lord to answer our prayers quickly and bring restoration and reconciliation.
But there’s something so important we can easily overlook—the Lord Jesus Christ desires to be honored and glorified through us in our trials, and that during this time our lives would serve as a testimony of His mercy and grace.
During a particularly difficult season in my life, I realized my focus had gradually shifted. I was so desperate for relief that I couldn’t think to look upward. I was crying out in prayer, but honestly, my attention was on the situation. The Lord, in His mercy, slowed me down and reminded me that His goal was not only to carry me through but also to be revealed in me—through my attitude, thoughts, words, and actions. He wanted to use this trial to help shape me more into His image.
“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” 2 Corinthians 4:17
I’ve realized there’s a lot of “practice makes perfect” in my Christian walk. This was one of those moments when I truly needed His grace and determination to keep my eyes fixed on Him, to keep trusting, and sing my way through. I had to let go. I had to leave whatever healing, recovery, or reconciliation He provided up to Him. His grace was enough for each day, and joy gradually began to fill my heart again.
Gently ask yourself—Is Jesus Christ your focus? Do you want Him to be glorified in how you face your trials? Suffering can produce something beautiful in us for Him. It can be a precious time of nearness to Him that you may never have experienced without the trial.
What a powerful testimony it is to the world when He brings reconciliation. But during the waiting, the agonizingly long days and nights, may our hearts rest in Him and be focused on bringing Him glory and honor in all we say and do.
“…that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ…”
1 Peter 4:11
Prayer
Loving Father, guide our eyes up, toward You, especially in our deepest trials, so that we may bring You honor and glory for Your name’s sake.
Amen
