Through Deep Waters: Trusting God in Trials

“THROUGH”

He is both the answer and the healing.

Welcome,

It’s tea time—a moment to slow our breathing and open God’s Word together.

Trials — deep waters, fast-moving rivers, raging fires—come to all of us at some point in our lives. These are times when we may feel overwhelmed, caught off guard, broken.

As Christians, we are not untouched by trials. In fact, if our desire is to truly know the Lord Jesus, Philippians 3:10 reminds us that we will share in His sufferings.

I appreciate how the hymn writers have captured what I’d like to share here today…

‘Twas on that night of deepest woe,

When darkness round did thicken,

When through deep waters Thou didst go,

And for our sin wast stricken;… *

Alone—apprehended and taken,

While lovers forsook Him and fled.

Alone—and completely forsaken,

God’s judgment was poured on His head. **

Has anyone ever faced deeper waters than our precious Lord Jesus?

A perfect, sinless Man, alone, forsaken by those closest to Him, suffered the cruelest death—crucifixion—and in that solemn hour, He bore what we never could—forsaken, as He carried our sin.

This verse in Isaiah has spoken deep peace to my heart in trials. I’ve found myself holding onto one small word—“through.”

Not stuck. Not abandoned. Through.

Notice how each “through” is followed by a promise of hope…

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.

When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,

Nor shall the flame scorch you.”

Isaiah 43:2

The Lord Jesus knows what deep waters truly are—He has walked them Himself. And when I find myself there, He understands in a way no one else can. He has promised never to turn away, never to forsake me.

He is both the answer and the healing.

I can rest here—abiding in Him, trusting Him. He is faithful.

These are not distant promises—they are spoken personally, tenderly, to us.

How precious are His words here…

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.” Isaiah 43:1

And

“For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

If you are passing through deep waters today, may His presence comfort you.

Steeped in God’s love, 🌸

Evelyn

Prayer:

Loving Father, give me grace to continue trusting that You care for me and will be with me through all my trials.

Amen
