When Sin Creeps In: A Quiet Call to Confession and Cleansing

1 John 1:9

Sin dishonors our precious Lord Jesus and, when left unaddressed, leads to serious consequences.

Welcome, it’s tea time—a moment to slow our breathing, open the Word, and let His truth quietly do its faithful work in us.

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, awareness of germs and their effects on daily life grew significantly. People became seriously ill, and many died, often from complications. In response, guidelines were established—wearing masks in public, washing hands frequently, sanitizing items before bringing them into our homes, and practicing social distancing to slow the spread of infection. These invisible germs didn’t just affect physical health; they touched nearly every aspect of life, including our relationships.

As I reflected on this, I began to think about sin and its effects.

Sin, too, is like a sickness. When it is present in my life as a believer, something is amiss. It creates distance, disrupting my fellowship with the Lord and, at times, straining my relationships with others. What may seem small or hidden can quietly spread, affecting the heart in ways we don’t always notice at first.

Let’s pause for a moment to reflect. Ask the Lord to reveal anything in your life that doesn’t please Him. Did anything come to mind?

Looking back on the pandemic, I remember some of the extreme measures we took to protect ourselves from germs. It makes me wonder—do I show the same care and urgency in guarding my heart against sin? Sin dishonors our precious Lord Jesus and, when left unaddressed, leads to serious consequences.

So what do we do?

We humbly come to Him.

The verse in 1 John 1:9 reminds us of this simple and beautiful truth: when we recognize our sin and confess it to the Lord Jesus, He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us. Just like that, what hindered our fellowship with Him has been removed, and our relationship has been restored. What amazing grace!

As we continue walking with Him, we are not left to struggle on our own. God has given us His Word. As we open our Bibles and read, His truth washes over us, cleansing us from the inside out. Day by day, we remain connected to Him, applying and obeying His teachings, and we are blessed with the peace that comes from knowing He is sanctifying and shaping us.

“Sanctify (set apart) them in the truth; your word is truth.” — John 17:17

We do not need to hide what He already sees. (Numbers 32:23) In His presence, there is cleansing, renewal, and peace. He is faithful to forgive, and gentle to restore.

Prayer
Loving Father, help me see clearly anything in my life that does not honor You. Give me a willing heart to confess it to You. As I read Your Word each day, cleanse me, and keep me close to You.

Steeped in God’s love, 🌸

Evelyn
