“In Pressure Thou Hast Enlarged Me”
It’s tea time in God’s Word ☕ 📖
Let’s linger here a moment together…
Sometimes, the very places that feel most confining are the ones the Lord uses to gently grow our hearts. What feels like pressure is not without purpose in His hands. He is doing a quiet, inward work… stretching our trust, deepening our dependence, and drawing us nearer to Himself.
The poem below was such a help and encouragement to me in this. It traces that pathway so tenderly. I trust the Lord will use it to meet you, strengthen you, and remind you that even in the pressure, He is faithfully at work.
Streams In The Desert
L. B. Cowman
The capacity for knowing God enlarges as we are brought by Him into circumstances which oblige us to exercise faith; so, when difficulties beset our path, let us thank God that He is taking trouble with us, and lean hard upon Him.
“In pressure, Thou hast enlarged me.” Psalm 4:1b JND
“I was crushed...so much so that I despaired even of life, but that was to make me rely not on myself, but on the God who raises the dead" 2 Corinthians 1:8, 9
Pressed out of measure and pressed to all length;
Pressed so intensely it seems, beyond strength;
Pressed in the body and pressed in the soul,
Pressed in the mind till the dark surges roll.
Pressure by foes, and pressure from friends.
Pressure on pressure, till life nearly ends.
Pressed into knowing no helper but God;
Pressed into loving the staff and the rod.
Pressed into liberty where nothing clings;
Pressed into faith for impossible things.
Pressed into living a life in the Lord,
Pressed into living a Christ-life outpoured.
