The Father’s Home Above
~ Heaven ~
The Father's house is secure, unchanging, and eternal.
Welcome, 🙂
Today, my heart was drawn to this beautiful promise found in John 14:1-3. Make a cuppa and join me for a few quiet moments.
"Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." — John 14:1-2
When Jesus spoke these words, He was comforting hearts that would soon be filled with sorrow. Yet instead of focusing on what His disciples were losing, He directed their eyes to what lay ahead: the Father's house.
Notice that Jesus does not simply speak of heaven. He calls it My Father's house. The word Father speaks of relationship, closeness, affection, and permanence. Through faith in Christ, God is not merely our Creator or Judge—He is our Father. I am His child and always welcome in His presence.
In the Old Testament, God often revealed Himself through names that emphasized His power, holiness, and covenant relationship with His people. Access to His presence was limited, and only the high priest could enter the Most Holy Place once each year. But Jesus came so that we might know God as Father and draw near to Him with confidence.
Jesus also speaks of a house, not a tent. A tent is temporary and movable, but a house is permanent and lasting. Abraham himself looked beyond earthly dwellings to "the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God" (Hebrews 11:10). The Father's house is secure, unchanging, and eternal.
What makes this home possible? Jesus says, "I go to prepare a place for you." Through His finished work on the cross, Jesus opened the way for all who trust in Him to enter the Father's presence and one day dwell in His heavenly home. When He cried, "It is finished" (John 19:30), the work of salvation was complete. Nothing more needed to be added. The door to heaven was opened for all who place their trust in Him.
And there is more. Jesus did not merely promise a place. He promised Himself:
"I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."
One day, every believer will see Jesus face to face. No more death. No more separation. No more tears, heartbreak, pain, or sin. We will be forever at home in the Father's presence.
Let’s look up and focus on what a wonderful future awaits every child of God.
Pause and Reflect:
How would remembering we will be with Jesus in His Father’s home above change your perspective on circumstances in your life today?
A Quiet Prayer:
Loving Father,
Thank you for finishing the work on the cross. Help me to look up and remember that one day I will be with You forever. May I live today with the hope of heaven before me.
Amen.
