Songs In The Night — Part 2

 Welcome,

Come, let’s open the Word together. In this quiet space, the Lord faithfully meets us—teaching, comforting, and drawing our hearts upward.

Songs In the Night — Are Yours Sweet or Bitter?

“There is no such sweet singing as a song in the night.” — Henry Ward Beecher.

I’ve asked myself: Is this possible?

Suffering reveals much about the condition of our hearts.

One soul runs to the feet of Jesus and remains there. Though wounded and grieving, they surrender themselves to His care. They may not understand His ways, but they trust His heart. They accept the trial from His loving hand, believing that somehow, beyond what they can presently see, He will work even this for good.

“We know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

There is a quiet sweetness in a heart like that.

The songs rising from suffering speak of God’s faithfulness, mercy, comfort, and sustaining grace. Even through tears, there is peace. Even in weakness, there is rest. There is an assurance of the heart that God is conforming us to His image.

I know this because the Lord has done this for me.

In my own nights of sorrow, I have found refuge in Jesus. He has steadied my trembling heart, quieted anxious thoughts, and met me in the darkness with His presence. The songs He has given me in suffering have become testimonies of His tenderness and care.

And those songs are a testimony that strengthens weary hearts around them.

But there is another response to suffering — and it is heartbreaking.

Some allow bitterness to take root in the pain. Anger and blame spill from wounded hearts. Instead of running toward the Lord, they pull away from Him. Their suffering becomes heavier because it is carried without surrender.

Oh, how important it is where we run in the night.

Will we trust Him or accuse Him?
Will we rest in His love or resist His hand?
Will our songs become sweet… or bitter?

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” — Psalm 30:5

My friend, if you are walking through a dark night, run quickly to Jesus. He is still faithful there. He still comforts. And He still gives songs in the night. This I have learned by experience.

A Quiet Prayer:

Loving Father, help me to hear your tender, loving voice in the midst of my heartbreak. I trust You have a good plan in mind for me. Help me to sing songs in the night.

Amen

Steeped in God’s love, 🌸

Evelyn
