Too busy sign

Welcome, 📖 ☕️

It’s tea time. A moment to slow our breathing, open the Word, and let God’s love steep into places we didn’t even know were tired.

“My people… have forgotten their resting place.” Jeremiah 50:6

There is a weariness that settles deep into the soul when we wander too long without resting in the Lord. Perhaps you are busy serving everyone around you, but you recognize you are running on empty.

Not physical exhaustion alone—but the kind that comes from striving, carrying, fearing, rushing, and trying to hold together what only God can sustain. As women, our many responsibilities make it so easy to fall into this path.

The Lord calls Himself our Shepherd. Again and again throughout Scripture, He lovingly invites His people into rest.

“I will feed My flock and I will lead them to rest,” declares the Lord GOD in Ezekiel 34.

“He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul.” Psalms 23

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

What love, what tenderness there is in these words.

The Lord does not drive His sheep harder.
He does not demand endless striving.
He leads.
He restores.
He gathers.
He carries.
He gives rest.

And yet, one of the saddest refrains in scripture is found in these words:

“In repentance and rest you will be saved,
In quietness and trust is your strength.”
But you were not willing. Isaiah 30:15

He…goes after the one that has drifted from His path, until He finds it. And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. Luke 15:4, 5

“Ask for the ancient paths…
And you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” Jeremiah 6:16

How often are we the same?

Sometimes we are so busy, so consumed with responsibilities, worries, and even good things, that we don't recognize we are quietly saying "no" to the rest Jesus is offering.

The Shepherd offers green pastures, but we keep climbing barren mountains.
He offers quiet waters, but we continue running.
He offers trust, but we cling to worry and fear.
He offers rest, yet our actions speak of our inward response:
“No… not now.”

We say we want peace, yet we continue to chase control. We long for rest, yet keep measuring our worth by what we accomplish. We seek relief from our burdens while refusing to lay them down at His feet.

Perhaps we fear slowing down.
Perhaps we have forgotten how to be still.
Perhaps we have wandered so long that striving feels more natural than surrender.

Can we become so consumed by the rush and busyness of life that we no longer recognize our need for the Shepherd's rest?

The heart of God has not changed.

“I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out.” Ezekiel 34:11

What comfort for weary hearts.

The Shepherd still seeks.
Still gathers.
Still restores.
Still leads His sheep to rest.

For your good, He will find you and bring you back.

Maybe today the Lord is gently asking us to stop wandering from hill to hill searching for what can only be found in Him.

To stop resisting rest.

And simply come near.

Because true rest is not merely the absence of work—
it is the presence of the Shepherd.

Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is sit quietly with our Shepherd, open His Word, pour out our hearts in prayer, and remember that we are His sheep before we are His servants.

"We are His sheep before we are His servants."

Will your answer today be, "No, not now,” or "Yes, Lord, I will come and rest"?

 Pause and Consider

In what area of your life might you be quietly saying "no" to the rest your Shepherd is offering?

A Quiet Prayer

Lord, forgive me for striving in my own strength and carrying burdens You never intended me to bear. Help me to trust You, rest in Your presence, and remember that I am Your sheep before I am Your servant. Lead me beside Your quiet waters and restore my weary soul today. Amen.

Steeped in God’s love, 🌸

Evelyn
