Don’t Know Your Spiritual Gift? Start With Love | Romans 12

Helping elderly

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.” — Romans 12:6–8

Welcome, ☺️

I’m happy you joined me today.

Romans 12:6–8 reminds us that God has given us a variety of gifts according to His grace. Some are called to teach, encourage, serve, give, lead, and show mercy. Every gift has a place in the body of Christ.

Then Paul continues:

“Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another.” — Romans 12:10

Many women quietly wonder:

What is my gift? How or where will the Lord use me?

Romans 12 reminds us that every believer has been given gifts to serve in many ways. Every gift matters because every member of God’s family does.

But what if you don't yet know what your gift is?

Don't focus solely on finding your gift. Ask the Lord to make it clear, but for now…

Start with love.

Where do we learn what love looks like?

God is love.

We see His love most clearly expressed through Jesus. God loved us so deeply that He gave His Son for us. Jesus didn’t merely tell us what love looks like—He showed us through His actions.

So if you're wondering where to begin, start with Jesus’ example. Read in the Gospels how He loved people. Notice how He saw those others overlooked, stopped to help those who were hurting, served His disciples, showed compassion, and gave of Himself.

And then, follow His example.

You don't have to wait until you discover your spiritual gift to be useful to God.

I love the freedom in that thought. We don't have to have everything figured out before we begin serving the Lord. We don't need to know exactly where we fit or what our specific gift is before we reach out to those around us.

Love is always a good place to begin.

Love your family.

Love your neighbors.

Love your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Serve the woman beside you.

Pray for someone who is hurting.

Encourage the weary.

Include the lonely.

Visit the shut-ins.

Offer help quietly and cheerfully.

Reach out beyond your immediate circle.

Along the way, you may discover that God has gifted you in ways you hadn't yet recognized.

Show Jesus’ love to someone today. That may be exactly where He wants you to start.

Quiet Prayer

“Lord, who can I love today?” Please open my eyes to others' needs and help me love them well.

Sometimes we discover our gift while simply following Jesus in love.

Steeped in God’s love, 🌸

Evelyn
