Are You Limiting God in Your Thoughts and Prayers?
Matthew 19:26
“But with God, all things are possible.”
Welcome, ☺️
Today, before we begin, I'd like to invite you to pause and reflect for a few moments. Pour yourself a cup of tea or coffee, settle into a quiet place, and consider:
Are you limiting God in your thoughts, expectations, or prayers?
Then he said, “Take the arrows”; so he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground”; so he struck three times, and stopped. And the man of God was angry with him, and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it! But now you will strike Syria only three times.”
2 Kings 13:18–19
King Joash acted according to what his finite mind thought was enough—three strikes should do it. Yet the prophet rebuked him because his response revealed a lack of confidence in what God was willing and able to do. How much more might he have received had he not limited his expectations of God's victory over his enemies?
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
—Ephesians 3:20
What a powerful expression: "exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think."
How often do we bring our requests to God while quietly assuming that little can change? We pray small prayers because we have small expectations. Yet God is not limited by our circumstances, our resources, or our understanding. His plans and power extend far beyond what we can imagine.
What power belongs to our God? He is the Creator who spoke the world into existence. He is the Savior whose power raised Jesus Christ from the dead. He is the One who has given us His Holy Spirit and faithfully keeps us until the day Christ returns. The power of God is beyond measure.
Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
James 5:17–18
God sees your situation. He hears the cry of your heart. Don't allow fear, doubt, or human reasoning to place limits on what He can do. Pray boldly. Pray believing. Trust Him with what seems impossible.
The God who withheld the rain for three and a half years and then sent it again is still at work today. And when His blessings begin to pour out, they often produce far more fruit than we ever imagined.
Reflection Question:
Where might I be limiting God by what I think is possible instead of trusting what He is able to do?
Let’s keep in mind: “But with God, all things are possible.” — Matthew 19:26
A Quiet Prayer:
Loving Father, I know that You alone are God. You are not limited in anything You desire to do. Give me grace not to limit You in my thoughts, expectations, or prayers. Help me to trust You more fully. Thank You.
Amen
