He Restores My Soul: Learning to Rest in the Lord

“My people…have forgotten their resting place.” — Jeremiah 50:6

“Thus says the Lord God, ‘I will care for My sheep and will deliver them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day. I will feed them in a good pasture, and their grazing ground will be on the mountain heights…I will lead them to rest.’” — Ezekiel 34:11–15

“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” — Psalm 23:2–3a

Welcome,

Come, let’s open the Word together. In this quiet space, the Lord faithfully meets us—teaching, comforting, and drawing our hearts upward.

Years ago, I had the privilege of hiking in the Swiss Alps. Wow! They were even more majestic than I had imagined. Breathtaking views of vibrant blue skies, green grass-covered mountains, so quiet and calming. And yes, the urge to twirl with arms outstretched and sing, “The hills are alive with the sound of music…” was very strong. 🙂

But sitting on the green grass among delicate Edelweiss flowers, in the warm sun with a gentle breeze blowing, my body and mind felt entirely at rest. Breathing deeply, I closed my eyes and thanked the Lord for these special quiet moments.

My time in the Alps came to mind as I read the verses above: “I will feed them in good pasture; their grazing ground will be on the mountain heights.” “He makes me lie down in green pastures, leads me beside still waters, and restores my soul.” What precious truths. Have they become real to my heart?

We have all walked through cloudy and gloomy days—times of trial, discouragement, and weariness.

Perhaps today you feel tired, brokenhearted, or simply at your wits’ end. Hard seasons can distract us so easily, causing us to forget how sweet and precious it is to sit quietly in the presence of the Lord Jesus and rest in Him.

He says, “In repentance and rest you will be saved.

In quietness and trust is your strength…” — Isaiah 30:15

Rushing ahead in our own strength and wisdom will eventually leave us weary. But the Lord invites us to come higher—to rest with Him on the mountain heights, above the noise and distractions of life. There, we can graze in the good pasture of His Word and speak with Him in prayer. There, the sound of His gentle voice can be heard.

He restores the soul.

As you place your burdens into His hands and trust them to His care, He will strengthen you for the day ahead. He delights to give wisdom, help, and direction for every circumstance you face.

Challenge:
Will you make room today to rest quietly in the Lord’s presence—or would you say, “I am not willing”? (Isaiah 30:15)

Prayer:
Lord, lead me again to my resting place in You. Quiet my anxious thoughts and help me trust Your care more than my own striving. Restore my soul and give me strength for today. Amen.

Steeped in God’s love, 🌸

Evelyn
